Indonesia by the Harbour

Sydney's "Indonesia by the Harbour" festival, organized by the Indonesian Consulate General, IIPC, ITPC and partners, drew approximately 4,000 attendees, blending Australian and Indonesian communities. Elder Gumaroy Newman's "Welcome to Country" ceremony marked the opening, using a smoke ceremony with local plants. Consul General Vedi Kurnia Buana envisioned the festival becoming an annual Sydney tradition, promoting Indonesia's culture, trade, and tourism.

The festival showcased diverse cultural performances, a Batik Chic fashion show with Indonesian artists like Acha Septriasa and Acha Sinaga, and culinary delights like cendol, Mie Kocok Bandung, batagor and many more. A unique shipping container stand promoted Indonesian tourism, trade, and provided visa information.

Attendees, including the Indonesian diaspora, praised the festival for promoting culture in Sydney. Beyond cultural celebrations, the festival served as a platform for fostering relationships between Australians and the Indonesian diaspora. With this year's success, organizers hope the festival will become a recurring, highly anticipated annual event, enriching Sydney's cultural tapestry.
